Symbolic of nearly two centuries of national independence, Aro del Bicentenario’s architecture would certainly be a modern icon for the city. It imitates the shape of a ring with no beginning or end. This ring essentially connects the city of today with the past and is a clear metaphor for the unity of all Mexicans. Though the monument is supposed to deck alongside the square bounded by the Ministry of Health, it’s exact location is somewhere between the gates of the lions of Chapultepec Park.
Operating from different points as a device framing three historical monuments, the Chapultepec Castle, the Monument to the Niño’s Heroes and the Angel of Independence, it symbolizes the continuity of time. Below the new Plaza Reforma, a large triangular space acts as a dynamic lobby area. The other side is a simple grid of trees entering the forest of Chapultepec, perhaps seeking refuge from ephemeral disorder within the metropolitan life.
