Inspired by Sarcophyton elegans, a soft Coral Sea creature, Belly Love is a sofa that glows in dark. Designed by Florence Jaffrain, Belly Love is a prototype, which will be displayed at Slott Gallery in Paris as part of an exhibition called Preliminaries. The furniture so acquires the name because of its sensorial ideal of our life in the womb, and also because it breathes with the ease and tranquility of a protective masculine figure. So blending the best of both, the sofa bestows both asexual and sensual absurdity.
The sofa glows because it is covered in glow-in-the-dark fibers. It is made from foam covered in a textile material called ENSAIT that uses photo luminescent components. The microcapsules incorporated in the fiber create a pleasant fragrance of oils into the air, thus creating an aromatic feel. The sofa breathes as well, but cannot say whether its a mechanism hidden under the memory foam or a genuine life force that animates this membrane. Elegant in look and unique in functionality, the sofa makes a cool addition for your contemporary home.
