Green: A sustainable skin for buildings of the future

And, the award goes to the concept Green by Manuel Dreesmann. No kidding, this is the winning concept in the VisionWorks Award. This concept visualizes the green and sustainable future with the help of vertical gardens, providing a sustainable skin for buildings of the future. It is a paternoster system in which the growing units are stacked on steel ropes that are tensioned on two wheels. And the rope is moved by the water that is filled in at one side.

The plants grow between a double glass facade. The growing units that are placed on the moving ropes are placed in with vegetables and fruits of the season. So, you have the vision of your food growing in front of your window. The food growing this way can have various uses, like it can be delivered to auto mats on the street level and shops inside the building. The only side effect (and that too a good one) this concept has is the need for ventilation and air conditioning, as the plants clean the air inside the building. So, with this concept in place you will feel healthier and more energetic, as it will give you a more natural environment. This concept is the solution for urban gardening and at the same time a solution for using unused space in the cities to provide food for its inhabitants.

THE JURY’S VERDICT “The winning concept Green by Manuel Dreesmann stood out for three reasons. It uses no packaging, solves transportation and distribution problems through on-site production, and uses the concept of vertical farming in office buildings as the basis for a future-focused vision that can have a positive impact on the climate and atmosphere at the workplace.”
